Saturday April 27th The Fitch Falcons played Eastlake North @ Progressive Field. Our students at Austintown Community Televison called the game and provided camera coverage for the event. This was a great contest. Look for the Falcons on ACTV in the coming weeks. Great job.

On Sunday, October 7th, we (Austintown Fitch's Life Literature Class) took part in Sojourn to the Past's Peace Walk, in downtown Youngstown. October 7th through 13th is Non Violence Week and this walk was to promote peace and non violence in our community. Many churches, schools, and other organizations came out to promote the peace in our city. The walk started downtown on Wood Street and ended in Federal Plaza with a rally. Many speakers showed up on this cold and rainy day to show their support for peace in our city. State Senator, Joe Schiavoni said he wants to see Nonviolence Week recognized throughout the state. Not just during this week, but everyday. Several YSU students spoke of students and friends that they know who died due to violence. In all, the number added up to 22. If 22 people are dying in our community due to violence then something has to change. One of the biggest points made at the rally was that as a community we can say that we need to stop violence and promote peace, but it is not that simple. You cant just say lets stop the violence, you have to act. You have to be the change you want to see in your community. At next years walk, we want to see the number of people at zero who died of violence.

Students from Mr. Steven Ward's Life Literature class held a Prom for All in the cafeteria on 9/10 and 9/11. The project-based learning goal was to get students actively involved in helping other students on campus. This drive from the previous year collected gently used Prom/Homecoming dress and made an evening of helping students who could not afford dresses find one and keep it, free of cost. On average a Prom dress is approximately $231.00, and our class helped pass out over 50 dresses to those in need, saving Fitch students over $11,000.
Helping with the project was:
Project Leaders: Domnique Cappabianca, Emily Witz and Gabrielle Butcher
Project Volunteers: Garrett Bickerstaff, Amanda Cutlip, Alexis Johnson, Jordan Kelly, Kaylee Kesterson, David Matheny, Rachel Moser, Rebecca Woods, Thomas Green, Amber Cooke, and Rachel Jones.
